Due to the ongoing pandemic, people are trying to stay at home as much as they can, which means that their physical activity is next to none. However, people have picked up new hobbies during the virus, one of which is cycling.
A lot of people are now incorporating cycling into their physical routines, as it is one of the easiest ways to maintain social distance while getting some fresh air. Unfortunately, not all of us learned how to cycle our childhood. But don’t fret about it too much, if you are one such person, then you are at the right place, today in this edition of Skill Sharing Tips, we have seven amazing tips for cyclers who are just starting.
So let’s get into them:
Protect Your Head
I cannot stress enough on the importance of wearing a helmet while riding a bike or a cycle. During a cycling session, you are extremely prone to hurting your head as you are putting the force forward. If you trip upon a stone or something during a ride, you will fall face-first on the ground, hitting your head in the process.
You can get some very scary injuries, which is why always protect your head at all costs!
Wear Appropriate Clothes
It is best to wear padded shorts while cycling, as they remain close to your body and do not come in the way while riding a bike. Decent padded shorts will also save your back from some massive injuries. They are also extremely comfy, therefore, you won’t feel a thing while cycling.
Get The Right Saddle
If you think that you will be more comfortable with a thicker seat, then by all means go for it. But before you make a long term decision, it is best to try out a few types. Whereas a thick saddle might look as if it would be better for long journeys, in actual it is not all that good.
It can get extremely irritable if you try to ride a bike for longer intervals on it.
Learn How To Fix A Puncture
You will experience a flat tire more times than you think you will. Therefore, it is best to always be prepared to fix a tire. If you don’t have anyone to teach you how to do it, you can always refer to YouTube for a quick tutorial. Practice a few times on your bike, and you are good to go!
Change Positions While Riding
As it would be your first time on a bike, you ain’t sure of what is the best position to ride a bike in. This is why we would always suggest you move around during cycling. Move your hands on the handle and your rear around the saddle.
This will also keep your handles and other body parts from getting numb due to prolonged position during the ride.
Don’t Ride With Your Headphones
Even though it is extremely dangerous to drive with headphones on, it is even more life-threatening if you do so while cycling. It makes you immune to the surroundings, which can turn pretty ugly pretty fast.
It can turn out to be extremely dangerous for you if you don’t hear an emergency vehicle or any commotions behind you.
Keep Your Head Up
Don’t sit with your head dangerously low on a cycle, this will stop you from looking ahead. Keep your head high so that you can look far enough ahead to avoid any obstacles and react to them!
Here are the top 7 tips for all new cyclers out there. All you need to do is be aware of the surroundings and ensure that you have enough protective gear around. This way you can avoid obstacles and have fun at the same time.
