Preparing your mind to get back to sports

Ready to get back into sports? Us too! But the return to sports after the difficult year we’ve all been faced with might be more challenging than we expect. From physical issues such as being able to manage less weight in the gym than previously to the mental challenges too. If you want to return to sports stronger than ever before, prepare your mind with our advice.

1. Create a new training schedule

Whilst you might have been working out or training multiple times a week before things will be different now. You’re in a new routine that likely doesn’t include the same level of physical excursion. Start back slowly, or at whatever pace you are comfortable with and build back up your level of fitness. The last thing you want is to overwork yourself in the first couple of weeks and need more time off to recover.

2. Accept your new level of fitness

Don’t force yourself to workout as hard or to the same level as you did prior to Covid-19, your body will get there again but it might take some time. Make sure you accept your level of fitness no matter where you are at. It’s okay to take a few weeks to rebuild before pushing for new achievements. Trust us, your body will thank you later.

3. Try something new

It’s never been a better time to try something new, as many clubs and leisure centres return to normal they will have new class schedules in place that are perfect for sports lovers at all levels to get involved with. Feeling nervous? Take a friend or family member so you have that extra bit of support. But don’t worry if you can’t find anyone to go with you, making friends whilst playing sports is easy and there will likely be other people who are giving it a go for the first time.

4. Treat yourself to new workout gear

Nothing makes you feel more motivated than when you have new clothes or equipment you are excited to use. From comfy clothing sets that flatter your body to new trainers, there are plenty of things, big or small that you can treat yourself to before getting back to sports. This will help motivate you and give you even more confidence!
