Sports and a sense of belonging

Yoga friendships are underrated, I tell you. You know that feeling when you are in the middle of holding that warrior two pose, with your thighs wobbling as if they want no part in this any further, sweat dripping down your face, you are concentrating just enough to not cry, you look to your right and you see your fellow yogi going through the same, and in that moment you feel a deep sense of belonging with the people in that room.

It is a feeling that can be best described as self exploration while belonging to a like-minded community who are there for you, sharing experiences and challenges.

More than just a sport

This is true not just for yoga, but for any group activity or sport. There is a sense of community that gives birth to beautiful friendships leading to extraordinary moments. No wonder people who play sports lead a much happier social life. Research also states that people who play make much better colleagues and team players, and show strong tendencies of resilience at work.

So what makes those who play sports stand out? The straight answer is that it’s not really just about the sport, isn’t it? It’s about the beer afterwards, it’s about the conversations and moments, it’s about the dressing room banter and pranks, it’s about that feeling when you end a season with your mates over a pizza. One can go on and on..

‘The Sporty Club’ is about all this and more

It’s a group of like minded individuals coming together to play a sport, and also enjoy all the social aspects that come with it. We believe a sport has the immense power to connect people and build lasting relationships. It helps create a healthy community to amplify our joy and weaken our struggles with.

You see when you are out on the field, or when you are learning a new skill, you are putting your vulnerable self out there – you are constantly embarrassing yourself while learning something new, you are getting injured trying to hit that goal, you are pushing all physical limits to hold on to that asana for a few more seconds. In a way, we become children again, and we are happy to belong to a tribe of like minded people.

Join the club

Why not extend this relationship outside of the sport? The Sporty club is an endeavour to maximize social time with your playmates/classmates by organizing a variety of activities and events.

This is especially needed today, as the world tries to reel in from the pandemic effects and the lockdown misery it has put us through. It’s time to come out and get some air. It’s also time to make new friends, and celebrate our wins and losses as a community, and just feel grateful to be ‘alive and kickin’.

Join The SPORTY CLUB to know more. Tell us what you get up to outside of the game, and get some ideas on what fun things others are doing!
