An active family is a happy family, kids, teens and adults can all feel the physical and mental health benefits of participating in sports. There are so many different activities to get involved in your family will be able to spend quality time together whilst enjoying an activity that you love. Keep reading for three top tips to get your family involved in sports.
- Get some friendly competition going! Split into teams and let the games begin, will you do Dad vs. All or Kids vs. Adults? The competition element will motivate the kids and also be a great opportunity to teach about being a good loser/winner. Some sports we recommend include; Tennis, Soccer and Golf (make it mini-golf if you are playing with younger kids or want to try a more themed course).
- Let everyone pick a sport and rotate whose turn it is! Give every member of the family a chance to be in the spotlight by letting them pick their own sport and then get everyone to play. This will not only give you multiple ideas but will also give you and the rest of the family a chance to experience the different sports everyone enjoys. Plus as parents, this is a great opportunity to teach turn-taking skills.
- Finally, use a random sports picker online if you are really struggling to find a sport you’ll all enjoy. We particularly love this idea if you’re keen to try something completely different that you might not have ever considered before. Most sports can be adapted in some way to work for smaller, family groups and a variety of ages. If you do happen to get a sport that you can’t play why not search for some training drills which you can do as individuals.
