Running is one of the best forms of physical activity out there. It pushes you to engage your entire body in a full-blown workout, which is excellent for your muscles. While running, you are essentially exerting force from your backside so that your body can be in movement.
Even though freestyle running is a good form of exercise to include in your daily routine, it is important to be careful with your form and stamina. These two things are the main building blocks behind a successful running session.
In this edition of Sporforya tips, we have some incredible tips for you to keep up your stamina and keep your posture right at the same time!
So first things first, it is practically impossible to have a good lap if you can’t keep up your stamina. One of the easiest ways to build stamina is to start slow and make incremental gains as you proceed. If you have an average of 4 miles per x minutes, don’t try to bump it up to 7 miles in one go.
Give it time and slowly incorporate miles, so that your body has ample time to adjust. Next up, include some sort of strength training in your life. Try resistance workouts and lift small weights, this way you will be able to build body strength and improve your running by ten folds. A lot of people forget to incorporate any other physical activity in their life, once they start focusing on running.
We would suggest getting some cross-training in, such as swimming or even outdoor cycling. Both activities are good at helping you increase your stamina level. Cross-training is important because otherwise our body becomes used to the same type of activity and then stops responding to it!
Another thing that is equally important for runners is proper rest routine and eating habits. The food that you put in your body has a massive effect on your stamina and endurance. If you eat healthy and nutritious food, which is not caloric dense, your body automatically feels much more energetic.
Lastly, one of the best ways to build stamina is to be consistent. Always, remember that there is no way to increase your stamina overnight, it takes time, hard work, and dedication. You cannot expect your body to build resistance in one day.
Let’s say you run for 20 minutes around the block daily, increase your time to 30 minutes, and see how that goes for a week. Like this, you can gradually keep on increasing the time, and by the end of the month, you would be a much better place than you are now.
Moving on to the right form. Nike running club coach, Blue Benadum explains the importance of the right posture perfectly in this video.
Firstly, he says he cannot stress enough on the importance of avoiding overstriding. This generally means that you should try to land your feet right behind the other one each time.
His second tip is as genius as he is. Your feet should ideally be beneath you, as opposed to in front of you. This promotes a straight figure as well as a linear running pattern. This also teaches you the sensation for proper foot landing.
Next, he talks about how you can have a faster and more efficient running lap. You should try your level best to bring your heel as close to your thigh as soon as possible. Try moving your arms back and forth to reduce the rotation in your torso. This way you will end up with faster and an effective run!
Lastly, running is a fun activity and that is why you should treat it like that instead of a chore that you have to do each morning.
That’s it from our side for today, we hope our tips help you in building better stamina and having fun running sessions. Let us know if this article was helpful for you, or if you want us to compile some tips for something else next week!
